Pizza Express firmly believes that good animal welfare management to prevent disease in the first place is key to the reduction of antibiotic use. We also believe that the overriding principle of antibiotic use is to use as little as possible but as much as necessary to address disease and ensure that sick animals do not suffer.
We do not support the prophylactic use of antibiotics in livestock production or their use for production purposes such as growth promoters and to improve feed efficiency.
We require our meat suppliers to work with farmers and qualified veterinary experts to work together to ensure that the administering, measurement and monitoring of antibiotic use complies with all relevant EU and UK legislation. Our suppliers should also ensure that the use of permitted antibiotics which are critical to human health are used only when other options are unavailable. Banned antibiotics that are critical to human health such as fluoroquinolones must never be used.
