Venice In Peril
After floods devastated the city in 1966, Venice in Peril was established to protect the collection of monuments, sculptures and buildings still housed precariously within reach of the lagoon's waters.
Born out of Peter Boizot's long-term love of Venice, the Veneziana pizza was created. With every Veneziana pizza ordered PizzaExpress donate 25p to the Venice in Peril fund.
Still supported by PizzaExpress today, more than £1.7 million has been raised by discerning diners in the UK over the past 25 years.
The fund is now doing its bit to protect our own heritage alongside Venice's historic riches.

PizzaExpress has created an entirely new kind of pizza. It's called Leggera, pronounced Lay-jer-ah, which means 'light' in Italian. It has a hole in the middle, and a salad in the hole.
Each one is designed to be about 500 calories, meaning that you can enjoy a tasty pizza without even the slightest pang of guilt. In addition to the pizzas, we've also created two light starters and a dessert.

The difference between a Romana and a Classic appears to be minimal; however the taste is very different.
The differences between a Romana and a Classic are size, thickness and taste.
The Romana and Classic pizza are made from the same dough but the Romana is stretched further, to 14 inches and cooked on a wire mesh.
This gives the Romana an extraordinarily thin, crispy base and consequently, stronger flavours than the Classic.
The rolling of pizza dough is a fine art and a delicate balance. Come to a restaurant and see which you prefer.

Long before teaming up for the recent opening of the Peterborough restaurant, founder Peter Boizot enlisted the help of the flamboyant Enzo Apicello in designing the original PizzaExpress logo and interiors.
To design the original PizzaExpress logo and interiors, Peter Boizot enlisted the help of the flamboyant Enzo Apilcello.
Their first joint venture, and second PizzaExpress restaurant to open, was in Coptic Street in 1967, an old dairy near the British Museum that remains one of PizzaExpress' most iconic buildings. The original dairy tiles give it the perfect acoustics for live music and the open kitchen has also become a PizzaExpress trademark.
